How to Play Live Caribbean Stud Poker

Live Caribbean Stud Poker is a variation of Casino Poker poker. In other words, the game’s goal is to beat the dealer, rather than other players. Casino poker is generally played with 3 cards per hand. This variant, however, bumps this number up to 5. Each player can take only one seat at the table, even though the number of players per session isn’t limited.

This exciting poker variant is played with a single standard 52-card deck and after each session, the cards are instantly shuffled. To start the game, players need to place a bet on the Ante spot which is mandatory. The side bets are entirely optional, and we’ll discuss them in detail further down. Both the dealer and the player are given five cards. The player’s cards are face-up, while only one of the dealer’s cards is revealed.

At this point, the player chooses to call or fold. The Call bet is always double the stake of the Ante bet. Then, the host will reveal their cards and thus reveal the winner of the session. Essentially, the side with the stronger standard poker hand wins.

Keep in mind that the dealer has to have at least an Ace/King or higher to qualify. Essentially, if the dealer doesn’t qualify, the Call bet pushes and is returned to the player. However, the Ante bet wins and pays as usual. If the dealer qualifies, the hands are compared normally.

That’s pretty much all you need to know about how Caribbean Stud Poker works. The payouts are pretty much a reverse of usual casino poker rules – Ante bets pay even money, while Call bets depend on a table. You can find more information below.

Live Casino Best Tips for Caribbean Stud Poker

  • The RTP for live Caribbean Stud Poker tables is comparable to regular Casino Hold’em. Essentially, it’s up to you to pick a ruleset you prefer.
  • Though the progressive poker jackpot can’t boast great returns in the short term, you can win massively.
  • Though the rules are somewhat different, the best casino poker strategies will work here as well.

Live Caribbean Stud Poker Payouts

As we mentioned briefly, the Ante bet always pays even money. However, the Caribbean Stud Poker payouts for Call wagers and side bets depend on your winning hand. This may seem daunting to a new player, but it’s quite easy – the stronger your hand, the more you’ll win. Check out the Evolution Caribbean Stud Poker payout table below for more details.

Winning Hand Payout
Call Bet Payouts
Royal Flush 100:1
Straight Flush 50:1
Four of a Kind 25:1
Full House 10:1
Flush 7:1
Straight 5:1
Three of a Kind 3:1
Two Pairs 2:1
Pair or High Card 1:1
5+1 Side Bet Payouts
Royal Flush 1000:1
Straight Flush 200:1
Four of a Kind 100:1
Full House 20:1
Flush 15:1
Straight 10:1
Three of a Kind 7:1
Progressive Jackpot Side Bet Payouts
Royal Flush Progressive jackpot
Straight Flush 2500:1
Four of a Kind 250:1
Full House 50:1
Flush 25:1
Straight 10:1
Three of a Kind 3:1

All of the above may be a bit confusing unless you know how Caribbean Stud Poker side bets work. Either way, this puts the RTP of Call bet at 96.29%. However, since the Call bet cannot win without an Ante, the actual RTP of the main bet is 98.18%.

The 5+1 Side Bet is not something you should try every round, considering the 91.44% RTP. Still, it can be worthwhile if you’re lucky. The Progressive Jackpot officially lists 81.84% as the theoretical payout. However, the progressive features throw these calculations completely off. That’s the nature of live casino games with progressive jackpots – smaller regular returns in exchange for a shot at the ‘big score’, which can be in the hundreds of thousands.

Special Features

The interface is of usual Evolution quality, which is great for anyone looking to play Caribbean Stud Poker online. However, the main distinguishing features of this title are the two side bets.

5+1 is based on one of the common bonus bets in live casino poker. Essentially, this wager looks at your hand and the dealer’s up-card. If they form a poker hand, you’ll receive a payout with hugely enhanced odds. Importantly, the outcome of this side bet does not depend on the main bet. In other words, you can win Caribbean Stud Poker side bets even if you fold on the Call wager.

The Progressive Jackpot option is generally more interesting. It’s only available in some participating casinos, though, so your table may not have the option. Anyway, it’s a rather simple bet in its own right. It costs $1 to participate, and all the bets by all players contribute towards the progressive jackpot pool. If you buy in and get lucky enough for a Royal Flush, you’ll share the jackpot with all the other players that opted in. Alternatively, other strong hands will give you a fixed payout, as per the table above. The pool regularly swells to hundreds of thousands, so winning the Jackpot can be extremely lucrative.

Languages

  • As one of Evolution’s less popular titles (though still hugely popular among live casino poker fans), there are no native-speaking tables for this game. All the dealers speak English, and the game itself is presented in English. However, you can adjust the settings to display a different language in the interface. Options include Albanian, Bulgarian, Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Finnish, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, and Turkish.

Our Verdict of Live Caribbean Stud Poker

All in all, Live Caribbean Stud Poker by Evolution Gaming is a thrilling game to play.

Aside from the authentic atmosphere and professional live dealers that perfectly lead players through the game, this variant is really special thanks to the 5+1 side bet.

This option lets players win and scoop a good prize even if they end up having the losing hand or it can make them double winners too.

Therefore, anyone looking for fast-paced poker action with a touch of magic should consider testing their skills on this amazing product.

Moreover, it’s a great chance to play 5-card poker at an online casino. There aren’t many games out there that offer that kind of opportunity yet, so it’s worth checking out.

FAQ

You can play Caribbean Stud Poker by Evolution live online on any of the casinos on this page. Specifically, 888 Casino is one of the best live casinos online, and it offers the full catalog of Evolution games. This includes Caribbean Stud Poker.
Firstly, you’ll need to put down an Ante bet. The dealer will hand 5 cards to you and 5 to themselves, with the latter being face-down. You then decide whether to Fold or up the stakes with a Call bet. Once betting is over, the cards are revealed and the stronger hand wins. You can find more details above.
The game is played with 1 deck, shuffled and cut after each round. Once shuffled, the dealer first hands the players 5 cards face-up. Then, they deal a single face-up card to themselves. Lastly, they deal 4 cards to themselves face-down. These are revealed after betting is over.
To win, you simply have to have a stronger hand than the dealer. The rules follow standard poker hand rankings. From strongest to weakest, these are Royal Flush, Straight Flush, Four of a Kind, Full House, Flush, Straight, Three of a Kind, Two Pairs, Pair, and High Card.
Unfortunately, no. Evolution live table casino games do not have a demo mode. This means that you can only play Evolution Caribbean Stud Poker for real money at a live online casino.
A common strategy for casino poker is to only Call if you have a pair or higher. Remember that cutting your losses is extremely important in poker. Feel free to let the Ante stake go in exchange for long-term profits. While winning with a High Card is quite possible, the odds are not in your favor, which is why the Pair rule is so helpful.
