Sette e Mezzo: Our Review, How and Where to Play

Playtech by Playtech

Sette e Mezzo Live by Playtech is a live dealer table card game similar to live blackjack. It boasts an RTP of 99.35%. with a minimum bet of $1 and a $10,000 maximum wager. The game is available on both desktop and mobile and is a unique blackjack-like game from Italy.

Sette e Mezzo has a long history as a casino game, but it’s mostly enjoyed by Italian players. Consequently, the online Sette e Mezzo Italiano game is conducted entirely in Italian. The popular Italian blackjack can be a fresh experience for non-Italian speakers as well, however. This is pretty much the only way to play Sette e Mezzo live online currently, but it’s a well-made game nonetheless.

Playtech, one of the veterans of the industry, for a while hasn’t been very much invested in improving its live casino offering.

When the existing games started to feel a bit stale, the provider turned up the volume and started releasing terrific new live dealer titles, from the Quantum series to exotic games such as Settee Mezzo. This is the first time that the online casino audience has the chance to experience a game like Sette e Mezzo, one of Italy’s most popular card games.

Sette e Mezzo translates to Seven and a Half; some would also call the game Italian Blackjack.

It is a unique card-comparing game that originates from Italy. It has similarities with blackjack, but also with baccarat. It can be described as a blend of the two and you do need to know a bit of Italian to fully enjoy the game and all its flavors. After all, the only available Playtech Sette e Mezzo tables are presented in Italian. This is the first time we’ve seen a game be exclusive to native-speaking non-English tables. You can enjoy the experience without understanding the dealer – the UI presents much the same information. Still, non-Italian players may be robbed of some of the immersion.

How to Play Playtech Live Sette e Mezzo Online - Come Si Gioca a Sette e Mezzo

Sette e Mezzo Regole

Playtech’s Live Sette e Mezzo is played with one deck of cards, but not a standard one. It uses Neapolitan cards – or Sette e Mezzo Carte Napolitane. It consists a deck of 40 cards with 4 suits – Clubs, Swords, Coins, and Cups. Each of the suits has Aces, cards from 2 to 7, and picture cards called Jack, Cavalier, and King. Ace is valued as 1, cards from 2 to 7 retain their face values, whereas Jacks, Cavaliers, and Kings are valued a half each. The only exception is the King of Coins which acts as a Wild card.

The aim of the game is to form a hand closest to a total of 7 ½. The deal opens with only 1 card for the player and 1 card for the dealer. Further action depends on the first card being King of Coins. If it is the first card you are given in the round, you are dealt a second card immediately. Should the dealer have the King of Coins as the first card in the hand, the player has to keep drawing cards until they reach 7 or more.

If your hand totals 7.5 with its first two cards, you get a natural, otherwise known as Sette e Mezzo reale.

If the total goes over seven and a half, the hand busts. Round actions come down to hit or stand and the dealer stands on 5 or more. There are also two side bets available – Partita Perfetta and Mano Di Poker – which are very similar to blackjack optional bets Perfect Pairs and 21+3. More on these can be found further down in this Sette e Mezzo Review.

Live Casinos Best Tips for Sette e Mezzo

  • All players share the same hand, but their actions and decisions are completely independent.
  • If the player's card is less than the dealer's card in value, then the player is obligated to hit. This is often called a "forced hit."
  • There is a statistically optimal Sette e Mezzo strategy. A Sette e Mezzo strategy chart exists, just like in blackjack.

Payouts

In this game, payouts work almost identically to live blackjack. That said, you can’t make an insurance bet, and the side bets have similar rules but different payouts. You can find the details on how Sette e Mezzo payouts work below.

Result Payout
Regular Win 1:1
Natural/Reale 3:2

Partita Perfetta Side Bet

Sette e Mezzo RTP is 99.35%. That’s a little on the low side by blackjack standards, but incredibly high compared to any other live casino game. The side bets in Sette e Mezzo are surprisingly fair as well – their RTP is lower than the main bet but high enough to make them worthwhile. Parita Perfetta comes with 96.15% RTP, while Mano Di Poker RTP is 96.32%.

Special Features

Made by Playtech, this game comes with a sold range of options and features, such as the usual live chat, audio/video settings, and language tab. You can also find the Help window in one of multiple languages, as the UI makes it possible for those who don’t speak Italian to play.

As far as actual gameplay features go, there are additional betting options in the form of side bets. These can be made at any point during the wagering period and can win and lose independently of the main bet. Experienced blackjack players will find the Sette e Mezzo side bets quite familiar, but we’ll go through the basics anyway.

  • Partita Perfetta is this game’s version of Perfect Pairs. In short, you win if the first two cards you draw are a pair. Pairs of Face cards get better returns, and a pair of 7s wins even more.
  • Mano di Poker translates to Poker Hand, which describes the game perfectly. This side wager is roughly equivalent to 21+3 in blackjack. It looks at your first two cards and the dealer’s upcard. If they make a 3-card poker hand, you win a payout based on the strength of the hand.

Languages

  • Sette e Mezzo is presented strictly in Italian. To our knowledge, that is the only language the dealers use in this Playtech game.
  • However, you can still tweak the language of the interface and enjoy the game even if you don't speak Italian. Available UI languages include English, Czech, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Spanish, Russian, Mandarin, Hindi, Slovak, and more.

Our Verdict of Live Sette e Mezzo

Playtech’s Sette e Mezzo Live is the perfect alternative for players who are fed up with the same game mechanics and traditional games of blackjack and baccarat.
This game format feels fresh and innovative, even though the game it is based on is not new at all and has been present at Italian casinos for decades. With the recent boom of the game show live casino options, Sette e Mezzo comes as a revitalizing experience.

Even to those who can’t speak a word of Italian, Sette e Mezzo by Playtech may be worth checking out. If nothing else, you will at least get a glimpse of a casino game you’re not familiar with. The fact that Playtech translated Sette e Mezzo rules to the live casino format so well helps a lot.
