By now, anyone who frequents live casinos is familiar with the concept of roulette games with multipliers. Such games are one of the most notable trends in online live dealer casinos. The idea is simple – you take the beloved roulette wheel, which is the most popular game in any live casino, and spice it up with some exciting multipliers and added volatility. Evolution’s Lightning Roulette first sparked the craze for such games, and pretty much every major player in the industry has tried their hand at it. Playtech, being one of the biggest fish in the pond, has multiple hats in this particular ring. Many experienced players are familiar with Quantum Roulette, for instance. However, the list also includes Age of the Gods Bonus Roulette, the successful Mega Fire Blaze Roulette, the branded Who Wants to be a Millionaire Roulette and, our personal favorite, Jet Set Racing Roulette.

So how is Lucky Ball Roulette any different, you may be asking? Is it just another classic European wheel with some random multipliers sprinkled in?

Well, yes and no. Lucky Ball Roulette handles things a bit differently. It introduces a special new type of bet that isn’t tied to a specific number on the wheel. The goal is not to predict which number will hit a bonus and win a Straight bet like in most such games. Instead, you’re simply hoping that any lucky number will win.

If you’re tired of accurately predicting Lucky Numbers in games like these but never seeing them actually win, this idea probably sounds fascinating. Let’s dive into the Lucky Ball Roulette game from Playtech and see how it works in practice.

How to Play Lucky Ball Roulette

The core gameplay loop and rules of Lucky Ball Roulette is not too different from any other live roulette game. If you’ve played one before, you should have no trouble figuring things out.

Every round begins with the usual 18-second betting period. You can use this time to make bets by clicking the corresponding position on the betting table. The chips below the table are used to set the size of your stake.

All standard roulette bets are available in Lucky Ball Roulette. You can make your usual wagers and the game would be functionally no different than a fun-looking classic European roulette. The one notable addition is the Fruity bet, which we’ll explain below. The multipliers on the board can only affect that one single bet, which is very important to remember.

After the betting period ends, the dealer spins the wheel as usual and the winners are determined based on where the ball lands. Fans of the classic will enjoy the fact that the dealer manually places the ball and spins the wheel, unlike most similar titles which are automated. Anyway, the rules are pretty standard stuff – if you’re not familiar with the basics of how roulette works, check out our beginner’s guide.

Fruity Bet

So the big feature in the Lucky Ball Roulette live game is the Fruity bet. You can find it at all times at the leftmost end of the betting table, right next to the usual Zero. Here’s how it works.

At the beginning of every round, five numbers are randomly selected on the board and marked as Fruity numbers. They’ll be highlighted on the table with a purple marker. Hot and cold numbers are also marked by little flames and icebergs, but you can safely ignore those.

If you place a Fruity bet and the ball lands on any of the five Fruity numbers, you win. It doesn’t really matter which of these bets wins. All five offer the same payout, and the bet can only win or lose with no middle-ground results.

Speaking of payouts, the Fruity bet in Lucky Ball Roulette can pay 3x, 5x, 20x, 50x, and 100x. The exact value is randomly selected after the betting period ends, and it applies to all five numbers. As expected, 3x is by far the most common outcome, while big multipliers like 50x and 100x are quite rare.

Best Tips for Lucky Ball Roulette
  • 1
The Fruity Bet is more consistent and much easier to win than most multiplier features in roulette-style game shows.
  • 2
However, it also unfortunately has very poor RTP. As fun as it is, it's hard to recommend playing it.

Payouts & RTP

You won’t have to remember too many details about Lucky Ball Roulette payouts. Just like most of the gameplay, most values are identical to standard European roulette. You can check out all of the possible prizes in the table below.

The one, obvious exception is the Fruity bet. As we explained in our Lucky Ball Roulette gameplay guide, this bet can pay 3x, 5x, 20x, 50x, and 100x.

Bet Numbers Covered Payout
Inside Bets
Straight-Up 1 number 35:1
Split 2 numbers 17:1
Street 3 numbers 11:1
Corner 4 numbers 8:1
Line 6 numbers 5:1
Outside Bets
Dozen/Column 12 numbers 2:1
Red/Black/Even/Odd/Big/Small 18 numbers 1:1
Bonus Bets
Fruity Bet 5 numbers 3x, 5x, 20x, 50x, or 100x

The standard bets in this game also come with the standard RTP rate for all European roulette bets, which is 97.3%. Good to hear, but not very surprising.

However, the Fruity bet in Lucky Ball Roulette boasts 95.29% RTP. That means that if you decide to play this admittedly exciting wager, you’re taking a bit hit in terms of long-term profits. Although reduced RTP is a common site for bonuses and multipliers in roulette games like these, 2% is still a very big hit. Arguably, it’s one of the biggest issues with this game as well.

Special Features

Besides the Fruity bet, this game also comes with a few additional features. Most of them are about ease of use, though, and the rest of the game is identical to pretty much any other Playtech roulette table.

For starters, we’ll note that sector bets are still available in the game. You can find them to the left of the standard betting table. The so-called racetrack view allows you to place bets such as Full Complete bets, Half Complete bets, Voisins du Zero, Tiers du Cylindre, Orphelins, Jeu 7/9, and Finales en Plain.

In addition, Playtech provides the Bet Creator and Lucky Dip functionalities. With the bet creator, users can create personalized bet combinations and conveniently access them whenever needed. The Lucky Dip feature enables the placement of multiple random Straight Up bets. For further assistance, a comprehensive Help screen can be found in the drop-down menu on the left side. This menu also includes settings for video and audio, game menu options, and language preferences.

Last but not least, the main betting table tracks hot and cold numbers. Some players like to keep tabs of these, but remember that they’re not really strategically important. Although this isn’t an important feature, the issue is that it’s active all of the time, by default. This creates unnecessary clutter on the table, especially since it’s important to keep track of the Fruity numbers which are also marked on the table itself.

Languages

  • The single Lucky Ball Roulette table currently available is presented strictly in English.
  • However, you can change the text language of the interface to one of several other languages including English, Czech, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Spanish, Russian, Mandarin, or Slovak.

Our Verdict

Playtech’s Lucky Ball Roulette introduces an interesting concept, but we’re not convinced the implementation is quite there yet. We can explain why, too.

On one hand, the game’s cornerstone feature, the Fruity Bet, is innovative and full of potential. There’s no denying that multipliers in roulette games add a lot of excitement, and a lot of that can be explained by the added volatility. Lucky Ball Roulette takes those same ideas and repackages them into a more consistent and easier bet. Unlike the Lucky Number multipliers in most games, it’s relatively easy to win the bonus bet. Besides, it’s not often that we see a roulette game actually introduce new bets.

However, there’s one big issue preventing Lucky Ball Roulette from greatness, and it can be expressed in numbers. 95.29% RTP is simply too low to recommend, and it will likely keep many players away. Moreover, the fact that most Fruity bets end in a 3x payout is not a great look either.

All in all, we believe Lucky Ball Roulette can be a great game if Playtech re-works the math model of the Fruity Bet a bit. Sadly, the math model is a crucial part of any betting game. This makes Lucky Ball very hard to recommend to players – especially because the Playtech portfolio is already full of fun, innovative, and arguably better variants of roulette.
