Teen Patti is essentially the Indian version of 3-Card Poker. It's a straightforward casino table game available at many live online casinos. In this Teen Patti tutorial, we'll explain how to play this game for real money, starting with the basic rules.
Teen Patti is slowly but steadily being popularized across the western world, but it remains mostly an Indian favorite. The game is simply called Three Card Poker or Three Card Brag in other parts of the world. Before you ask – the difference between live casino Teen Patti and 3 Card Poker is mostly negligible. For most purposes, Teen Patti is simply the same poker game intended for play at Indian live casinos. Of course, we are referring strictly to the version available at live casino sites online. The traditional Indian game is somewhat different.
The fact that it plays out like a simplified version of poker makes it quite appealing to an international audience, which prompted top live casino suppliers to bring out their versions of this interesting game.
In some regions, the game is known as 3-card brag (in the UK for example), but you will sometimes find versions called Flash, Flush or Teen Pathi, which translates to “three cards”.
There is nothing out of the ordinary concerning how a round of Teen Patti starts, so if you have ever played poker before, any card game really, you should have no problems starting off decently.
A game of Teen Patti accommodated up to 6 players, but the least number of participants can be three, excluding the live dealer. Only one deck of cards is used – 52 regular cards, without the Jokers. The round begins with placing wagers and then the croupier will proceed to deal three cards to each player, following a counterclockwise direction.
However, it’s important to remember that if you play Teen Patti online, you’re not playing the traditional game. Live online casinos have adapted the game to fit the new format. This means that all players at a table share a single hand, and they’re playing against the dealer instead of each other.
Instead of choosing to play blind or not, the rules state that the dealer has to qualify. Again, this goes back to how 3 Card Poker works.
However, the goal of Teen Patti is still the same. The game is all about making simplified poker hands, and comparing the dealer’s hand vs. the player’s hand. The stronger hand wins, as per the usual poker hand rankings.
If you’re already familiar with Three Card Poker, you know how Teen Patti works as well. If not, we’ll walk you through a typical round played at live dealer casinos online.
If you’re not sure which hand is stronger than which in Teen Patti, here are the full rankings. The game uses the traditional poker hand system to determine how these work. If you’re not familiar with how this works, check out our detailed guide to poker hands.
Of course, Teen Patti is played with just three cards per hand. This limits the number and complexity of available hands.
Here is how hands in Teen Patti rank, from strongest to weakest:
Remember, there is no pot; instead, each hand ranking comes with a corresponding payout, just like in casino poker. If you want to play the traditional Teen Patti game, you can only do so against other players instead of casinos.
First of all, there are multiple ways in which a round of Teen Patti can end. The outcome depends on whether you decide to Fold to Play, whether the dealer qualifies, and which hand is stronger. Here are all the possible results in live casino Teen Patti.
Result | Ante | Play |
Dealer does not qualify and you win | 1:1 | Push |
Dealer qualifies and you win | 1:1 | 1:1 |
Dealer qualifies and you lose | Lose | Lose |
Dealer qualifies and you tie | Push | Push |
Player folds | Lose | – |
Also, most live Teen Patti games come with an Ante Bonus. The Ante Bonus means that the player receives a payout if their hand is Straight or better. The good part is that you can receive this Teen Patti bonus regardless of whether you actually win the round or not. If you have a Straight or better, the money is yours, as per the table below.
Ante Bonus Bet | Payout |
Straight Flush (Royal Flush included) | 5:1 |
Three of a Kind | 4:1 |
Straight | 1:1 |
Live Teen Patti has found its way into several online casino floors which have quite a reach and accommodate a huge audience.
Before we point you to the casinos, know that there is some skill involved with Teen Patti. If you want more info about this game, check out these posts:
For instance, you can play Ezugi’s Teen Patti with a live dealer at casino sites such as Leo Vegas. Leo Vegas has one of the best live casino collections out there and oftentimes organizes good promotional campaigns for live casino players.
Alternatively, you can pay a visit to BetWinner Casino or 1xBet Casino and have a go at the version from Super Spade Games.
Bet on Teen Patti from Betconstruct has a twist on the standard game, but it is also a fun and rewarding live dealer solution. You can try it at BitStarz.
3 Patti, or Teen Patti, is a casino table game similar to 3-Card Brag. You can find a complete guide to the rules and how to play above.
That depends on the version of the game you’re playing. Classic, offline Teen Patti is different, and relies more on luck than skill compared to poker. If you’re playing at a live online casino site, however, Teen Patti is identical to Three Card Poker.
Queen High means that the current hand is a High Card consisting of a Queen. In poker and Teen Patti, a High Card hand is the weakest possible hand and it counts only if your current cards cannot make anything else. If the hand cannot make at least a Pair of Flush, the highest card is used to determine the winner. In the case of Queen High, the Queen is the highest card of the three cards. Most live casino Teen Patti and 3-Card Poker games require the dealer to have at least a Queen High to qualify for the Play stage of the game.
Cards of the same value in Teen Patti are ranked according to suit, not color. The ranking goes as follows: spades (lowest), clubs, diamonds and hearts (highest.)
