Crazy Balls Live: Our Review, How and Where to Play

Evolution by Evolution

Crazy Balls Live is an online casino game made and released by Evolution in 2024. It’s a unique blend of modern and traditional, combining bingo or lotto with big bonus rounds and special features inspired by the mega-successful Crazy Time. The bingo game is based on drawing 20 out of 60 balls and matching them to lines on cards, and there are 4 bonus rounds to explore and win with. If you want to know more about this fun Evolution live dealer game, our review covers all of its rules and features. We’ll also offer our opinion on how well the game turned out.

Crazy Balls aims to attract both fans of Crazy Time and lottery-style games in casinos. It sticks close to the well-known visual identity of the series while introducing entirely new mechanics.

Crazy Time continues to leave a lasting impact on the live casino industry. Arguably, it’s the one game that pushed live casino game shows to new heights of popularity. It has since received several sequels and spin-offs, largely centred on the acclaimed Crazy Time bonus round. These include Crazy Coin Flip and Crazy Pachinko, which will now be joined by Crazy Balls.

Unlike these earlier titles, though, Crazy Balls is not based on an existing bonus minigame from Crazy Time. Instead, it borrows several of these minigames and inserts them into a lotto-style game of drawing numbered balls from a big drum machine. In fact, all four of the original’s bonus rounds make an appearance – Coin Flip, Pachinko, Cash Hunt, and the eponymous Crazy Time. We would have preferred to see more originality in that sense, but this approach makes things easier to understand for long-time fans.

That said, any game like bingo is easy to just pick up and play, so being familiar with earlier Crazy titles is by no means required.

Besides the rules and features, the Crazy Balls studio also sticks close to how the original looked. It keeps the same zany, colorful style and high-end production while combining a bespoke studio with advanced graphical effects. Its a tried and true design that worked very well for the series, and we’re glad Evo is keeping its standards high.

For reference, Crazy Balls is similar in many ways to Evolution’s earlier games such as Mega Ball and Monopoly Big Baller. If you have any experience with these you’ll find Crazy Balls much easier to figure out.

How to Play Crazy Balls

To play Crazy Balls, you buy tickets as in normal player-vs-casino bingo. However, you can only buy up to 4 cards per round.

The cards are 5×5 grids of random numbers. The presenter will be in charge of a large ball drum, which draws balls with numbers. The goal is for the drum to draw the same numbers as the ones on your card(s).

If you manage to fill out a line of 5 numbers in a vertical, horizontal, or diagonal line, you win! The more lines you have on a single card, the bigger the payout.

There’s more to it, of course. Follow the steps below for a full run-down of how Crazy Balls works.

    1

    Purhcasing Cards

You can purchase between one and four cards per round. All of them will randomly generate numbers between 1 and 60, spread out in a 5×5 grid. Each of these positions is called a cell and can hold either a number or a special mechanic.

There are two such mechanics, and you get to choose which one you start with.

    • Free Space cards have a guaranteed ‘free space’ in the middle of the card. These free spaces complete any lines they’re a part of, as long as you hit the remaining 4 numbers.
    • Multi cards start with a guaranteed multiplier on the centre cell which increases any payouts that include that specific cell.

Note that you can toggle any card between these two types during the betting period. There’s a switch at the bottom right.

You can also bet on one one the four bonus rounds. To participate in a bonus round, you need an active bet when the round starts.

At that point, 3-5 random numbers will be selected for every bonus bet. If those numbers are drawn during the round, the bonus feature kicks off. We’ll explain how these work individually below.

    2

    Ball Drawing

When the betting period round kicks off. The ball drum machine spins and starts drawing 20 balls from a total of 60.

If the number on a ball drawn matches a number on any of your cards, the game automatically ‘daubs’ them. If you complete one or more lines on a card, you win.

The payout depends on the bet you placed on that particular card, the number of lines completed on a single card, and any potential multipliers. Note that you can place a different stake on every card. The same applies to the two bonus cards.

Another important feature is that after every betting period, random multipliers and “free spaces” are generated across your cards. Free spaces act as if the number in that cell was already drawn, while multipliers can increase your winnings. There are three types of multipliers in Crazy Balls:

    • Standard (10x or 20x) — if a winning line includes a number with a Standard multiplier on the card, your winnings are multiplied by that amount.
    • Line (20x or 50x) — if a winning line includes all numbers and a Line multiplier, your winnings are multiplied by that amount.
    • Global Multipliers – multiply all winnings from a specific card by 2x or 3x.
    3

    Bonus Games

Bonus games are tied to specific side bets which are located to the right of your cards. Each of these is assigned a set of numbers that must be drawn in that round for the round to activate. If you have an active bet on an activated bonus round, you participate in it after the main round ends.

Coin flip takes 3 numbers to activate, Cash Hunt and Pachinko take 4 numbers to activate, while Crazy Time requires 5. However, bonus game cards can also receive random ‘free spaces’ and multipliers. The multipliers range from 2x to 50x and increase any payouts from the relevant bonus round.

    Coin Flip

The Coin is a bonus round that was borrowed from Crazy Time with very few changes. It’s the simplest, shortest bonus round in Crazy Balls with the smallest profit potential. However, it’s also the easiest to win.

Basically, random multipliers are assigned to two sides of a coin – blue and red. The coin is then launched and flipped, and the winning side determines the payout for that round.

Occasionally, if both sides of the coin are assigned small multipliers, a special “rescue flip” may occur. This feature flips the coin again and adds another multiplier to the original value, increasing every participating player’s winnings.

    Cash Hunt

The Cash Hunt bonus round is also relatively straightforward, but it introduces an element of player interaction.

It’s based on a big wall of 108 symbols. Each symbol is assigned a multiplier and then shuffled across the grid.

Your job is to pick one of the symbols. The choice is completely blind, so you don’t really know what you’re going to get.

Once the countdown ends, the multipliers are revealed. The one you picked is your payout for the round.

    Pachinko

Crazy Pachinko is another Crazy Time staple that was given its standalone game back in 2023.

It’s played on a large purple screen with the prizes lined up at the bottom. An electronic puck drops from the top, and it slowly makes its way down to the prizes. The puck bounces around due to the obstacles and lands in a random, unpredictable slot at the bottom.

The payout is the same for every participating player, and it depends on the multiplier the puck lands on.

If the ball lands on ‘double’, all rewards are doubled and the puck is dropped again. This feature can repeat multiple times, up to a maximum possible payout of 10,000x.

    Crazy Time

The famous Crazy Time bonus round is the hardest to hit, requiring 5 numbers. However, it offers payouts of up to 20,000x, and it tends to pay the most on average.

This feature takes you to the familiar Crazy Time wheel, which is a Money Wheel with 64 segments offering different prizes.

You start by picking a color – green, blue, or yellow. The corresponding flapper on the wheel will determine your reward.

The presenter then spins the wheel, and your reward is whatever prize your chosen flapper lands on. It’s quick, exciting, and elevated by flashy special effects.

Some segments of the wheel are marked as “double”. For players who picked the flapper that landed on “double”, all multiplier values on the wheel are doubled and the wheel spins again. This can happen multiple times in a row, but a single payout from the Crazy Time bonus round cannot exceed 20,000x.

    Crazy Balls Strategy Tips
    • 1
We recommend buying all four cards in every round rather than a single card with a bigger stake. Every card has a decent potential for a big payout thanks to the multipliers, so it's better to maximize your chances of winning.
    • 2
Free Space cards and Multi cards are equal in terms of their RTP, which means you can expect to win the same from either type in the long run.
    • 3
THe bonus bets are a mixed bag in many ways. Although they're arguable the most exciting thing about games like Crazy Balls, they're quite risky and suffer in terms of RTP.
    • 4
Coin Flip is technically the best bonus bet in the game thanks to its high RTP, so we recommend playing it the most. On the flip side, the Crazy Time bonus bet is the worst option on average. However, it's understandable if you still want to play it because its so fun and potentially profitable.

    Payouts & RTP

You can find a full Crazy Balls paytable below, such as it is. Essentially, a single line of 5 numbers on a card pays 2:1. The more lines you hit on that card, the bigger the payout, up to 39:1 if you fill out the entire card.

These payouts can also be increased by one or more multipliers, as described in the gameplay guide above.

Obviously, Multi cards with guaranteed multipliers are more likely to provide a bigger payout. They also have a higher ceiling in terms of the maximum multiplier thanks to their initial bonus. However, Free Space cards are intrinsically more likely to win. It’s a matter of volatility – Free Space cards are ‘safer’ and less volatile.

    BetPayout
    Crazy Balls Payouts
    Free Space Card2–39:1 per line
    Multi card2-199:1 per line
    Coin FlipUp to 150x
    Cash Hunt75x-500x
    PachinkoUp to 10,000x
    Crazy TimeUp to 20,000x

The RTP of Crazy Balls Live is 96.10% for the base game, meaning the regular card. This figure applies to both types of cards, which means both are a good choice.

The RTP of the various bonus bets and bonus rounds varies from bet to bet. The rates for different bets are as follows:

    • Coin Flip – 96.49%
    • Cash Hunt – 96.09%
    • Pachinko – 95.68%
    • Crazy Time – 95.54%

Overall, the main game’s RTP rate is higher than average when compared to most other live casino game shows.

The bonus bets follow a strange trend in Evo’s Crazy Time-based games where bets with the highest potential payout have the lowest average payout. In other words, bets with a higher potential have weaker RTP.

    New to Live Crazy Balls?

    Our Verdict

Crazy Balls is one of the most highly anticipated Evolution games of 2024. However, it misses the mark in a few ways, which we’ll try to summarize.

Let’s start with the good sides. The first thing you’ll notice is just how good the game looks and how well it runs. Evolution has been at the forefront of live game design for years now, so we can’t say we’re surprised. If you’re a fan of Crazy Time’s vibe, you’ll love how this game looks too.

To be clear, Crazy Balls is fun to play and it delivers on its premise of being a “suped up” version of bingo. It brings a breath of fresh air into a relatively stale corner of the online casino world and we can’t complain about that.

However, those of us who are familiar with the Evolution portfolio quickly noticed that Crazy Balls is essentially just a mishmash of ideas and features we’ve seen in earlier games.

Obviously, the bonus rounds were taken from Crazy Time. This was expected, but frankly, we were hoping Evo would try to play around with these features and maybe even improve them. As it stands, the special rounds are a direct carbon copy of a title that is almost half a decade old at this point.

The same applies to the base game, which was actually lifted wholesale from Monopoly Big Baller. We’re not exaggerating here – pretty much all elements and rules are the same, even the payout structure.

We understand some fans may chalk this up to a “don’t fix it if it isn’t broke” mentality. However, we expect more originality from Evolution. Sure, the Crazy Balls casino game is fun and well-made, but we can’t say we’re overly excited about a collection of old ideas parading as a new game.
