Among Evolution’s announced games in 2022 is Crazy Coin Flip, an original idea based on the mega-successful Crazy Time game show. A quick glance is all you need to know that we’re in for something quite out there.
Live Crazy Coin Flip combines online slots with live dealer features borrowed from Crazy Time. It’s a fairly interesting idea – you play online slots to qualify for the live bonus round. It’s a clash of two worlds of sorts. Fans of online slots and those of live casino games don’t often mix, after all.
Live casino slots are not something we’ve never seen before, though. The first example that pops into our minds is Playtech’s Buffalo Blitz. As a concept, though, Crazy Coin Flip is much more interesting. It features a clearly divided slot phase and live dealer phase, which hopefully spells for a more focused experience.
The Crazy Coin Flip live casino game is intended for two audiences, the way we see it. Either slot fans who want a bit more engagement in their gameplay, or live players looking for something different. It’s a tough sell either way, but if anyone’s able to do it, it’s certainly Evolution.
This new game is unlike anything else we’ve seen on live online casinos before. As such, we’ll go into a detailed guide on how Crazy Coin Flip works.
It’s worth noting that the studio looks excellent and that the $0.10 minimum bet is quite low. That said, you will probably need multiple spins if you plan on enjoying the live feature. As such, you can expect a larger investment.
As noted above, Crazy Coin flip has multiple phases. You will need to play all three if you want to experience everything the game has to offer.
The first phase consists of the main slot, and the goal is to qualify for the coin flip. It’s still a fully functional online slot, though. This means you can win and lose money without ever progressing to any other phase.
The Crazy Coin Flip slot keeps things simple. It’s a 5×3 board with 7 symbols. If you arrange 3 or more along paylines going from left to right, you’ll get a payout.
Ultimately, however, the goal is to hit 3 Scatter symbols in one spin. This qualifies you for the following two phases. Scatter symbols can win anywhere on the board, and some have multipliers attached. Any multipliers won this way are added together and affect the last phase.
Once you qualify, you enter the Top-Up phase. Here, you’ll be playing against the clock to secure as big of a multiplier as possible. You may get more or less time depending on when you qualify. If you do so just before the Coin Flip bonus round kicks off, you’ll have the option of continuing Top Up until the next Coin Flip.
The Top-Up phase in Crazy Coin Flip is another slot, played on a 3×3 board. However, all the symbols are replaced with red and blue coins with multiplier values. You still have to offer a stake, though. Bigger stakes increase the multiplier values.
If you land 3 coins of the same color on the middle row, the multipliers on those coins are added together. They are stored at the top of the reels and will wait for the next phase. Note that the multiplier sums are separate for blue and red coins.
Once the timer runs out, all qualified players enter the next phase.
This is the phase everything has been building up to. You will no longer play the slots, and the presenter-run coin flip opens up.
First of all, two multipliers are generated for the red and blue sides of the coin. These are completely random and affect all qualified players equally.
Then, all the multipliers you’ve won so far are added together to their respective sides of the coin. Multipliers won through Scatters during qualification affect both. Multipliers from the Top-Up phase and the two new common values are all summed up for Red and Blue.
The presenter then pulls a lever to flip the coin. Whichever side wins, you get a payout according to the accumulated multiplier and the base bet from the Qualification stage.
The three stages of Crazy Coin Flip all come with their unique payout structure.
The Crazy Coin Flip slot during qualification is typical for online slots. Any payouts depend on the symbols matched during the spin. There are 7 symbols in total, and their payouts depend on how many are matched in a payline. All of these multiply your initial stake for that spin.

Payouts in the Top-Up phase follow a simple formula. Your base bet is multiplied by the total multiplier secured in that spin. This amount is paid out after the Coin Flip round ends.
The Coin Flip bonus round is the most exciting. The base amount is taken from the spin that qualified you for the Top-Up and Bonus phases. It is then multiplied by any Scatter multipliers, Top-Up coin multipliers, and the Bonus round multiplier.
Crazy Coin Flip RTP is 96.05% across all stages. The only exception occurs if you turn on XXXTreme Spins during Qualification (but not Super XXXtreme spins), in which case it’s 96.00%.

Considering the base gameplay is relatively complex and multi-stage, Crazy Coin Flip by Evolution does not use too many extras. Most are quality-of-life features you would expect from them, plus the regular fare such as Live Chat.
That said, the Qualification phase contains three distinct modes that can help you qualify faster. You can switch between them at the bottom right of the reels.

The Crazy Coin Flip live game is praiseworthy for its innovative spirit. However, there are still issues worth pointing out.
First of all, the appeal of this game to the typical slot fan is questionable at best. The slot is rudimentary by most modern standards. The same can be said about the coin flip itself, though. Some players like to keep things simple, of course. But we find it ironic that the coin toss itself does not determine if you win at all. It merely decides how much you win.
The main question here is – is Crazy Coin Flip more than the sum of its parts? In our opinion – it is. Though small on their own, the phases and features all blend together quite nicely for a fun experience. Evolution is breaking new ground here, however. We’ll have to wait and see how it pans out.
If you’re someone who likes to try new things, you should definitely play Crazy Coin Flip live. However, understand that novelty is its main selling point. More often than not you’ll just be playing a relatively small NetEnt slot.
