Extra Chilli Epic Spins is the latest form of innovation to come out of the Evolution kitchen. The name is certainly a mouthful, but the custom-built studio is a colorful splash of imagery inspired by Mexico and Mexican culture. As far as we can tell, the game’s theme and mechanics are a sequel to an online slot called Extra Chilli Megaways. It was released back in 2018 by Big Time Gaming, one of Evolution’s subsidiaries.
Extra Chilli Epic Spins Live is a live casino version of the BTG original, so it’s mechanically more like a live casino game show.
Live slots are an idea that has been around in the industry for years. We don’t feel like it ever realized its true potential, though. The pairing of two of the most popular forms of online gambling seems to make sense, but slot players and fans of live casino games have a fundamentally different approach to playing.
Nevertheless, Playtech had some success with the idea, most notably with Buffalo Blitz Live. It’s clear that live casino slots won’t overtake roulette any time soon, but there is enough potential that Evolution took a few cracks at it as well.

One of the charms of slot machines is that they’re fairly simple and hands-off. You place a bet and hope for the best.
Extra Chilli Epic Spins live slots are similar in that regard, but it still maintains a degree of complexity and player interaction.
A single game round is divided into several distinct stages, which we’ll go over in detail.
All you have to do to play Extra Chilli Epic Spins is select the size of your stake and hit ‘Play’. There aren’t any other options in terms of extra bets or alternatives.
A single bet qualifies you for 5 initial base spins. If you don’t place the bet in time, you’ll be set to join the following round instead.
As always with slots, you’re hoping to hit three or more matching symbols on 3 or more consecutive reels, going from left to right. Some symbols offer bigger payouts than others, and the more matching symbols you get in a line the better.
The game was based on the acclaimed Megaways mechanic, which is why the reels all have a different number of symbols. Don’t worry too much about it, though – the results and any winnings will be clearly shown on your screen.
The WILD symbol is special because it can substitute any other symbol. Wild symbols can only appear on the bottom row, though.
On some spins, a big wooden Crate may randomly appear on the screen. It reveals one of two possible bonus prizes – a multiplier or a letter.
The multipliers are fairly straightforward. You get a multiplier between 1x and 5x or any winnings during that spin and any remaining spins until the end of the round. These multipliers stack, meaning you can accumulate them over multiple spins.
Alternatively, the Crate reveals the letters H, O, or T. If you manage to spell out the word HOT during the round, the Free Spins and Gamble Wheel features trigger after the base spins are completed.
Sometimes, a big Pinata will appear instead of the Crate. The Pinata essentially offers super-charged versions of the Crate’s prizes.
Multipliers from Pinatas range from 10x to 20x.
Alternatively, the Pinata can instantly reveal the entire word HOT, which immediately guarantees the Free Spins and Gamble Wheel features.
If the word HOT is spelled out above the main game reels, all players participating in the round are awarded 8 additional slot spins at no extra charge. That’s why they’re called Free Spins.
Free Spins work the same way normal spins do and use the same stake you used for the initial bet. Free Spins can also reveal Crates and Pinatas and award even bigger multipliers.
Furthermore, the feature can be re-triggered if the word HOT is spelled out again. This can only happen once, though, for a grand total of 16 free spins.
After all Free Spins are over, the Gamble Wheel feature begins. This phase is just an additional opportunity to win even more spins.
The Presenter will walk over to a game wheel split into Red and Purple sections. Your goal is simply to predict which color the wheel’s pointer will land on after the presenter spins it. If you guess correctly, you get two more Free Spins.
After these two spins are over, the presenter will walk over to the wheel again. This time there are four colors and four options for you to predict. If you guess right again, you get 2 more spins.
Any multipliers accumulated during the base round and Free Spins carry over to these spins as well.
Unsurprisingly, the payout structure of Extra Chilli Epic Spins works like in slot machines instead of the live casino games you may be used to.
Every payout is determined by the size of your stake multiplied by the value of the winning combination. Any accumulated multipliers can then substantially increase your winnings.

All of this means that there is theoretically no maximum payout in Extra Chilli Epic Spins. However, Evolution generally restricts payouts to $500,000 per round, which is something to keep in mind.
The RTP of Extra Chilli Epic Spins sits at a rather solid 96.74%. In our experience, this beats most regular online slots, but pales compared to many table games.
Additionally, remember that Evo designed this game to be quite volatile. In practice, this means that most wins will barely cover the cost of your stake. However, the potential for large payouts is immense.

As far as live casino slots go, this is probably the best implementation of the idea we’ve seen so far.
For starters, the slot game itself is just complicated enough to not feel rudimentary. Big, volatile machines like these are definitely the most popular slot games these days, so we see the appeal.
Moreover, the Gamble Wheel feature adds a layer of interactivity that makes it all substantially more interesting. Perhaps it will be enough to bring in live casino fans – the majority of whom haven’t been too keen on the whole live slots thing.
All in all, it’s a well-made title, though the whole genre will always be just a niche. Personally, we prefer games with a bit more player agency.
Perhaps Evolution’s Extra Chilli Epic Spins will be the game that finally brings live slots into the live casino mainstream, seeing how its one of the best live casino slots to date. Then again, we thought the same thing about Crazy Coin Flip, which didn’t really pan out.
