As always, the goal is to get as close to 21 as possible without going over. You’ll first receive 2 cards and then decide whether you want to “|hit” for more or take your current score and stand. You win if you’re closer to 21 than the dealer, and you can only see one of the dealer’s cards. Importantly, a score of 21 with the first two cards wins outright, until the dealer manages to get the same.

Split and double are also available as usual, but this is where the rules are a bit different.

If you have a hand totaling 9, 10, or 11, you can choose to double for free. Your stake does not increase, but the potential winnings double as usual. However, you can only double with two cards, and only receive one additional card after doubling.

The same goes for Splits – any time you see two cards of the same value, you can split them into two hands. The hands proceed to play as usual, but you don’t have to increase your stake – the split is free.

So what’s the catch? How does Free Bet Blackjack compensate for these freebies? If the dealer hits 22, they don’t bust. Instead, all bets on the table push, meaning all stakes are returned to players in full.

• Basic strategy for Free Bet Blackjack is slightly different than standard variants of 21. In short, you should double and split every chance you get.
• Remember – splits and doubles don’t occur on every hand. However, the Push on dealer 22 rule is in effect all the time, regardless of whether you doubled/split that round.
• You can re-split up to four hands, and doubling Aces is permitted. You can also double after a split.
