Essentially, a few numbers are selected every round as “lightning numbers.” Every Lightning Number comes with a multiplier attached to it. If you win using one or more of these lightning numbers, your winnings are multiplied by their value. The exact specifics of lightning rounds vary from game to game, but the gist is the same for the whole family. Lightning Lotto from Evolution is similar in that way – and this review will explain how it works.
This results in a more interesting, dynamic, and ultimately more volatile game experience which has proven to be a smash hit with most players. Of course, it also comes with an impressive, purpose-built studio with excellent production value – it’s like something you would see in a TV game show. All of that is then polished with that well-known Evolution sheen.
We’ll start with some information about the basic gameplay and rules of Lightning Lotto.
Numbered balls are drawn from two large drum machines. One of these contains 25 balls, numbered from 1 to 25. It’s generally referred to as the “regular” drum machine.
The smaller ball machine contains 10 balls numbered from 1 to 10. It’s called the Powerball drum.
As a player, all you have to do to play Lightning Lotto is purchase tickets. Each ticket contains 6 numbers. 5 of these numbers range from 1 to 25, correlating to the balls in the regular drum. The sixth number ranges from 1 to 10, like the balls from the Powerball machine. You can buy up to 500 tickets per round.
In every round, 5 balls are randomly drawn from the regular drum machine while a single ball is drawn from the Powerball drum. If at least three numbers on your tickets match 3 draw balls, you’ll win a payout based on the number of matching results. The more winning numbers appear on a single ticket, the more it stands to win. Also, the Powerball number is not different in that regard. It’s drawn from a separate pool of numbers, but it doesn’t affect your payout differently than the regular numbers.
The more numbers drawn from the drum machine match the numbers on your ticket, the more you win in that round.
In every round, two numbers between 1 to 25 are randomly selected as Lightning Numbers. Every ticket that contains at least one of these two numbers is marked as a Lightning Ticket.
Every Lightning Number appearing on your tickets is assigned a random multiplier between 2x and 10x. Note that this multiplier can be different on different tickets, even though the tickets have the same Lightning number. For instance, if the number 10 is designated as a Lightning Number and appears on two of your tickets, it’s entirely possible that it multiplies one of them by 2x and the other one by 10x.
If you have a Lightning Ticket and win, the usual payout is multiplied by the multiplier appearing on that ticket. If two Lightning Numbers appear on a single ticket, their values are added together and used to multiply the prize.
Payouts in Lightning Lotto are fairly straightforward. They offer fixed odds for every “regular” ticket, meaning they’re always the same unless affected by a Lightning Number.
Unlike most other Lighning games, the Lightning numbers increase your rewards multiplicatively instead of additively. In other words, being lucky enough to win a Lightning Ticket with more than 3 winning numbers can result in some truly massive prizes. A ticket with all 6 winning numbers results in a base payout of 5,000x, with a chance of being multiplied up to 100,000x! That’s one of the biggest max payouts in live casino gaming, which should be enticing to many players.

Lightning Lotto RTP sits at 96.08%. That’s generally not a bad rate, though it depends on your standards. It’s a high RTP value compared to most slots and RNG games, but can’t really compare to table classics like blackjack or baccarat.
