Live Mega Wheel: Our Review, How and Where to Play

!DISCLOSURE
Pragmatic Play by Pragmatic Play

Mega Wheel Live by Pragmatic Play is a live casino entertainment game show released in 2018. It’s based on the classic “Wheel of Fortune” format in which players bet on which section the wheel will land on after the presenter spins it. The Mega Wheel also throws in some random multipliers which can increase payouts up to 500x and boasts an RTP of up to 96.51% with a minimum bet of $0.1 and a $1,000 maximum wager. The game is available on both desktop and mobile and offers Pragmatic Play’s take on the live casino money wheel genre.

With Pragmatic Play’s rapid expansion into live casinos, the software provider quickly expanded to offer most forms of live dealer games. These days, that doesn’t simply mean roulette and blackjack. Money wheel game shows are quickly becoming just popular. Mega Wheel is this provider’s simplest, most basic version of a wheel-based game show. It’s quick and easy to learn while also boasting some unique features that help set it apart from the competition.

Mega Wheel by Pragmatic Play was initially released to compete with games like Evolution’s Dream Catcher or Playtech’s Spin a Win. In other words, simple wheel-based entertainment games that don’t necessarily have big bonus features like Crazy Time. At the time, if you wanted such a live casino experience, you had one or two options at most.

Since then, live casino game shows have exploded in popularity. Many of them fall into the same category of “money wheel” games, too. However, as one of the early examples of this idea, Mega Wheel is relatively simple compared to games we can play today. It features a single wheel with 54 segments and random multiplier mechanics, and that’s pretty much it.

That’s exactly how this Pragmatic title can be described in general – simple but exciting and with a few tricks up its sleeve.

In this review, we’ll go through the rules and gameplay of Mega Wheel Live and explain how to get the most out of the game. I’ll also offer my opinion on the game and compare it to other prominent live casino games that can be considered its direct competitors.

How to Play Live Mega Wheel

If you’ve ever taken a crack at one of these gameshow-inspired casino games, you’ll know how to play Mega Wheel by Pragmatic Play. Otherwise, we’ll take you through a typical round.

The first thing you need to do is place your bets. You have a few seconds to do so, but don’t worry if you miss a round. This is a very fast-paced game, so you’ll get another chance in just a few seconds. Betting limits are typically between $0.1 and $1,000, giving you quite a range.

The goal of Mega Wheel is to guess which number the wheel will land on after the presenter spins it. There are 8 options to choose from, which is more than the typical 6.

The game studio features an actual wheel, so the outcomes are determined by a physical wheel and an actual flapper at the top. However, RNG is used to determine multiplier bonuses – more on that later.

Each type of bet is named after a number which tells you how much you’ll win if you win the bet. This means that the bigger the number, the better your winnings profits. Of course, larger numbers appear fewer times on the wheel, so they’re riskier to bet on.

Bets in Mega Wheel Live

Every available Mega Wheel bet corresponds to a number and a color. The number tells you the payout while the color marks the segments of the wheel that win that bet.

For example, let’s say you make a bet on 5. Segments with the number 5 are blue and there are 7 of them in total spread across the wheel. If the pointer at the top lands on a blue 5 segment, you win 5:1.

You can check out the table below to see all bets in Mega Wheel. The table also tells you how much the bet pays, how many segments of the wheel will win that bet, and how likely it is to win as a percentage.

Bet Payout Color No. of Segments Win Probability
1 1:1 Black 20 37.03%
2 2:1 Yellow 13 24.07%
5 5:1 Blue 7 12.96%
8 8:1 Magenta 4 7.40%
10 10:1 Dark Orange 4 7.40%
15 15:1 Light Orange 2 3.70%
20 20:1 Green 2 3.70%
30 30:1 Purple 1 1.85%
40 40:1 Light Pink 1 1.85%

Mega Wheel Multipliers

Multipliers and special bonuses are the lifeblood of any casino game show. This wasn’t really true back when Mega Wheel was released, which just shows how forward-thinking the game is in some ways.

In every round, one or more bets are randomly selected and boosted by the Mega Round feature. Any wager boosted this way has its payout replaced by a randomly determined multiplier.

For example, if a 100x multiplier boosts the Number 5 bet, it will pay 100 times your stake (a 99:1 payout) if it wins that round instead of its usual 5:1. Of course, you still have to have an active bet on that particular number. Since multipliers are determined after the betting period ends, there’s no way to know whether the bets you play will be boosted or not.

The maximum multiplier in Mega Wheel is 500x. However, it’s important to note that every type of bet has a maximum multiplier.

  • The 1 bet can have a maximum multiplier of 100x
  • The 2 bet can have a maximum multiplier of 200x
  • The 5, 6, and 10 bets can have a maximum multiplier of 250x
  • The 15, 20, 30, and 40 bets can have a maximum multiplier of 500x

This means that the highest payouts in Mega Wheel Live are reserved for the riskiest bets. Also, these multipliers add another level of complexity to picking your bets because bigger multipliers tend to appear on riskier wagers.

Also, note that these figures are the maximum multiplier possible for every respective bet. Most of the time the actual multiplier you see in-game will be much lower. The bet can be increased to anywhere between its base payout and its multiplier maximum.

Mega Wheel Strategy

There is no real strategy that can increase your chances of winning in Mega Wheel. The game is completely based on chance and players don’t get the opportunity to influence the outcome in any way.

Looking at the payouts and probabilities, some of these bets seem better than others. For instance, 8 and 10 have the same chance of winning but different payouts, making 10 look like the better wager in all instances. The same applies to 15/20 and 30/40, where the higher of the two seems strictly better because it’s as likely to win while offering better rewards. The expected value of the higher bets is better at first glance.

However, the RTP of all eight types of wagers in Mega Wheel is relatively similar. This means that something interesting is going “under the hood.” My best guess is that if two bets have the same chances of winning but one has a lower payout, the weaker bet also has a better chance to get a bigger multiplier. Either multipliers appear more frequently on that type of bet or they tend to be bigger. I don’t know for sure and Pragmatic won’t tell us, but it’s an important fact for understanding the game.

As such, a Mega Wheel strategy is all about balancing risk and reward. Our advice is to combine at least two types of bets in every round. Use the 1 and 2 bets to get frequent smaller returns to keep your bankroll going, and use bets like 30 or 40 to hunt for big multipliers.

Tips for Beginners
  • 1
Avoid the 8, 15, and 30 bets, and instead play the 10, 20, and 40. Although the RTP for these bets tells us that they're not strictly better, they're still more rewarding even though they are just as risky. You can expect to see better returns on average.
  • 2
Mega Wheel encourages playing risky through its multipliers. In fact, placing many different wagers in every round to increase your chances of hitting multipliers is a valid strategy. Just be careful not to burn through your bankroll too quickly.

Watch Video Preview of Mega Wheel from Pragmatic Play

Want to see how Mega Wheel works in action, but don’t want to risk any money? Well, sadly, you can’t play Mega Wheel free – Pragmatic Play doesn’t offer live game demos. However, you can check out the short video preview they made.

While the video doesn’t clearly showcase the mechanics, it focuses on what Mega Wheel is really all about – the experience. Remember, Wheel of Fortune live casino games are not just about winning and losing money. It’s about feeling like you’re on a TV game show, complete with the set and presenters.

Live Mega Wheel Payouts

We’ve prepared a simple Mega Wheel payout table below. It displays all the information you’ll need to start betting straight away. Essentially, the more likely a number is to win, the smaller the payout. You can cross-reference this paytable with the statistical table above to get the complete picture.

Number Base Payout Maximum Multiplier
Pragmatic Play Mega Wheel Payouts
1 1:1 100x
2 2:1 200x
5 5:1 250x
8 8:1 250x
10 10:1 250x
15 15:1 500x
20 20:1 500x
30 30:1 500x
40 40:1 500x

That said, most of the bets show remarkable consistency when it comes to their return-to-player rate. The number 1, being the least risky option, comes with an RTP of 96.51%. However, 40 – the riskiest bet – sits at 96.50% once you factor in multipliers. The RTPs are quite competitive with other games of this kind, too.

Frankly, we don’t have the exact RTP numbers for all of these individual bets. However, Pragmatic Play’s official info says the game’s RTP ranges from 96.50% to 96.51%. This makes the house edge for different types of wagers identical for most purposes.

Interface & Usability

Most of the game’s UI is the classic Pragmatic Play layout. Menus, settings, help screens, and other features can all be found at the top. Most of these options are industry-standard, but they’re still good to have. You can use them to adjust audio levels, video quality, languages, and more.

The betting table is about as simple as can be. It’s just 8 big, shiny buttons spread across the bottom of the screen. It’s simple and effective and makes it easy to just pick up the game and play. This is true regardless of whether you’re playing on desktop, mobile, or even a tablet. The UI adjusts slightly to the size and shape of your screen but is otherwise user-friendly on all platforms.

Graphics & Presentation

Like most game shows in live casinos, Mega Wheel is a big attention-grabber that focuses on entertainment above all else. This means the studio is colorful and full of visual effects that were inspired by TV game shows. The game was a cutting-edge piece of live casino technology back when it was first released, and it holds up more than well.

The studio design itself is a bit retro – as if the game show is taking place in the 70s or 80s. The lighting and details are all quite impressive, and the game stands out even in the crowded competition of Money Wheel gambling games.

Live Dealer Experience

Much like the game’s presentation was inspired by TV game shows, the presenters act like they are in an entertainment-style show as well. Their main job is to engage the audience, and they do a great job of it.

Of course, game shows in casinos generally have a certain presentation style – loud, bombastic, and enthusiastic for big multipliers and winning results. Mega Wheel is one of the games that set this standard in the first place, so it should come as no surprise that the presenters are quite talkative and excitable. It’s all part of the experience, and fans of this style of casino gaming generally enjoy it.

Languages

  • Currently, there is only one stream of Mega Wheel by Pragmatic play, and it’s presented in English. That makes a lot of sense – it’s still a specialty casino game, after all. However, the language of the various UI elements, menus, and wagering information panels can be changed. You can find the option to do so in the settings menu in the upper right corner. Options include Bulgarian, Chinese, Danish. English. French, German, Greek, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Suomi, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, and Vietnamese.

Our Verdict of Live Mega Wheel

Mega Wheel is a trend-setting release that is still one of the best and most popular game shows in live casinos. The overall production and entertainment value are excellent, and the game has more bets and bigger multipliers than many of its competitors. However, its distinguishing multiplier feature is still quite simple, keeping the action moving at all times. No time is wasted on elaborate bonus rounds or big extra features in Mega Wheel, which keeps things grounded and fast-paced.

There are two bets more when compared to similar titles, and they add some interesting options. However, we would have liked more insight into how the multipliers actually work behind the scenes. As it stands, some bets seem objectively worse than others even though the game’s manual states that their RTP is largely the same. Overall, the Multipliers are an excellent addition and add an extra layer to the game, but some transparency from Pragmatic would have been appreciated.

Speaking of which, the consistency of the RTP across different bets is another big advantage for Mega Wheel. Many competitors have huge variations in house edge between bets, so it’s nice to see that players don’t get punished for daring to play in a risky style.

Ultimately, Mega Wheel is an enjoyable experience, and its faults are small enough to be ignored by 99% of players.

You don’t have to worry about any rules except the basics of how Mega Wheel works. Just place any number of bets you want and hope that the wheel lands on one of the corresponding numbers. Players are not limited in any way when it comes to how or when they can bet.
There is no Pragmatic Play Mega Wheel demo version available at the moment. If you want to try playing the game, you’ll simply have to deposit some cash into a Pragmatic Play live casino. However, minimum bets can be as low as $0.10, so you don’t need to risk too much.
Mega Wheel by Pragmatic Play is a game of luck, not skill. However, as we pointed out in the review above, not all of the bets are the same. The only piece of advice that can truly increase your chances of success is to avoid the 8, 15, and 30 numbers. Besides that, you can employ betting systems, and hedge your bets in hopes of hitting the multipliers.
Not really, as far as we know. Mega Wheel is not an online slot and we have never seen casinos offer free spins. It could be an interesting idea for a live casino promotion, though. Live dealer Money Wheels are still a young part of the casino industry and this may change in the future.
No. All the probabilities, betting odds, and RTP value are exactly as presented in the game info panel. Pragmatic Play gambling products go through a rigorous vetting process – otherwise, they couldn’t be licensed like they are. Of course, the house is always at an advantage and not all the bets are equal in terms of RTP, but that’s how casino games work.
