It’s fairly easy to imagine how it all works – marbles roll down a track in a purpose-made studio, and players are able to wager on the results in real time. That’s exactly what this game delivers. The game features only two types of bets with fixed odds. They pay the same no matter which marbles you pick because every marble has the same chance of winning.
I’m a bit disappointed with how limited the betting options are. The concept of the game leaves a lot of space for other types of wagers. For instance, Evolution could have taken inspiration from horse racing to include Place and Each Way bets that would add a lot of flexibility. As it stands, the game can get a bit repetitive on the betting end. The races themselves are fun enough – I just wish there were more ways to interact with them.

The betting positions are simple colored squares. However, if you want to make a 1st and 2nd place bet, you’ll need to switch on the ‘compound mode.’ This option allows you to specifically pick which marbles you believe will place first, and which will place second. As such, making these bets is a bit obtuse at first, but you quickly get used to it.
The statistics screen is at the bottom right. It displays the winners of the previous 30 rounds as well as the win percentages for all six marbles. This makes the presenter’s job all the more difficult, though. They have to keep up with the races and provide commentary. When done right, the whole experience can feel like a horse race, only sillier and more random. Thankfully, Evolution’s hosts are up to the task. While the math model and betting options of Marble Race leave a lot to be desired, the actual playing experience is quite fun.
Evolution’s Marble Race is certainly an interesting concept. It has a lot of potential as a new form of online betting, and the experience of playing the game can be surprisingly exciting. However, I feel like Evo fumbled the execution in a few crucial aspects.
First of all, the game’s central concept is great because it can introduce all sorts of bets and predictions. For some reason, though, Evolution decided to allow just two types of bets. It feels like wasted potential.
Secondly, the game’s RTP is unacceptably low. This is especially annoying because the RTP could be improved by just slightly increasing the payouts.
