GambleAware Study Reveals the Value of Seeking Treatment

Responsible gambling is a crucial consideration for anyone looking to get into casino gaming, whether online or offline. However, those that do face addiction or other problems have proven, successful programs and tools they can turn to.

GambleAware, one of the longest-running and most respected organizations combating problem gambling, recently commissioned a study to determine the effectiveness of anti-problem-gambling programs. The study encompassed 14,500 qualifying referrals and 95,000 attended appointments.

The results are in, and 56% of participants reported significant improvements on the Problem Gambling Severity Index (PGSI). For example, problematic behaviour such as chasing losses markedly decreased after just three appointments with the National Gambling Treatment Service (NGTS) in the UK.

The Importance of Seeking Help

According to the study’s results, people experiencing problem gambling who completed their treatment were “78% more likely” to have a positive clinical change in both gambling behaviours and general well-being.

According to one of the study’s authors, “The assessment and treatment of problem gambling is a relatively new field, with depressingly expanding demand, and it is important for us to continuously challenge our own assumptions about what works.”
